  A common problem with outlets occur where an overloaded outlet or circuit may cause smoke on the face of the outlet, as well as a smoked or burnt odor.  Any outlet that has smoke or burn marks should be checked for damage, wear and tear, and proper wiring connections. 

Sometimes flickering lights might continue even after light bulb replacement because of a poor wiring connections. It's never a good idea to ignore a lighting or electrical problem due to fire hazard.

 In most cases, a tripped circuit breaker is caused by a temporary overload on the circuit or a short circuit in some device plugged into the circuit. If your home was built between 1950 and 1990 it may be equipped with a Federal Pacific Electric Panel (FPE), which runs a higher risk of breaker malfunction. The FPE has design flaws and no longer meets updated safety codes. When an overload occurs, a breaker protects you by tripping, thus shutting down the power to the circuit. If a breaker is defective or not operating properly, you run the risk of fire to the panel and your home. Many insurance companies will no longer insure homes with FPEs.
